Purpose
Delta Sigma Pi is a professional fraternity organized to foster the study of business in universities; to encourage scholarship, social activity and the association of students for their mutual advancement by research and practice; to promote closer affiliation between the commercial world and students of commerce, and to further a higher standard of commercial ethics and culture and the civic and commercial welfare of the community.

History
Delta Sigma Pi was founded at New York University, School of Commerce, Accounts and Finance on November 7, 1907 by Harold Valentine Jacobs, Alexander Frank Makay, Alfred Moysello and Henry Albert Tienken. In January of 1914, the first Grand Chapter Congress was held. The first Central Office of Delta Sigma Pi was established in 1924 at 222 West Adams St., Chicago, Illinois with H. G. "Gig" Wright as Grand President. In 1928, Delta Sigma Pi became one of the charter members in the newly founded Professional Interfraternity Conference. By the early 1950s, the Fraternity had over 90 chapters and over 30,000 initiated brothers, despite major setbacks throughout the Great Depression and World War II; and in the Fall of 1956, Central Office relocated to 330 South Campus Avenue in Oxford, Ohio and was dedicated to H. G. "Gig" Wright for his decades of service. On November 7, 1975, the Board of Directors authorized the chapters to immediately initiate qualified female business students in response to the implementation of Title IX of the Higher Education Act. The ratification of coeducational membership was passed by Grand Chapter Congress in 1977. In 1981, the 200th chapter was installed at Missouri State University. The 150,000th member was initiated in 1991, and in 1998, the Fraternity initiated its 200,000th member. As of Novermber 2007, 220,000 members had been initiated with 194 active chapters of the 265 chapters that had been installed.

Chapter History
The Theta Iota Chapter of Delta Sigma Pi was founded by Paul W. Speltz at the University of Connecticut, Storrs on March 8, 1970 and was the 165th chapter installed to the Fraternity. Today the chapter has initiated over 1150 members. With over 100 active brothers, we are one of the largest organizations in the School of Business. To date, 1196 brothers have been initiated into our chapter. We have Brothers studying every major in the School of Business and Economics. Many of our members are involved in other organizations and activities on campus including the Finance Society, Accounting Society, GUARD Dogs, Huskies Away from Home, and sLAAM.

Chapter Activities
Professional Event - Professionalism is a cornerstone of our Fraternity and a vital element of our chapter operations. Each semester we invite professionals from various fields to speak with the brothers about the business world. Topics vary from resume and interview advice to what you need to know to succeed at your job or move to a new city. Visiting speakers often accept resumes from brothers at these events.
Community Service - In order to live up to our stated purpose, we must value and support our community. Over the course of the semester we try to find fun ways to get involved in our local community. In the past we have participated in the Mansfield Community Center's Halloween Party, the ING Marathon in Hartford, and GUARD Dogs. We also make weekly visits to Verplanck Elementary School in Manchester and Stafford Teen Night.
SocialsActivities - Added to our purpose statement at Grand Chapter Congress in 1947, we believe that a strong brotherhood is founded on more than just hard work alone. Social events vary greatly from semester to semester, but are always hosted with the intention of supporting and furthering a strong sense of brotherhood within the chapter. At Theta Iota, we have been mixing business with pleasure since 1970.
Fundraisers - Each semester we host at least one fundraising event. Money raised at these event is put towards various chapter activites, such as financial support for LEAD events, or lowering the cost of fraternity dues for brothers.
